The Grünegghof in Dienten am Hochkönig as well as the Rainer family have a longstanding tradition. The connection between farm and family developed over centuries fascinates all our guests.
The Grünegghof has been around since 1506 and was then one of the oldest farms in the mountain village at the foot of the Hochkönig. In 1802 it passed into our family and for generations we’ve dedicated ourselves to managing our beautiful little gem on the alp.
Since the end of the 1970s, it’s been a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers. A lot has changed at the Grünegg since then and we’ve extended it quite a bit.
Until 1998, our guests had to hike to reach us, as the Grünegghof was only accessible on foot and by cableway.
In the same year, Birgit and Heinrich Rainer took over the farm and a new estate road was built. Which means now our guests can get here much more easily. But nevertheless you’ve earned your break!
Since the turn of the millennium, we have continued to expand the Grünegghof and extend its offer. We built new cosy parlours for the Grünegg Alm and extended the new distillery to incorporate a show distillery. We also built the chalets, and much more.
In addition, we’ve worked on greening the farm over the years and are proud to have succeeded in making the Grünegg self-sufficient in energy since 2021. Find out more about Sustainability at Grünegg.
For our guests, we give of our best every day and really love what we do. Our family has been at Grünegg for over 200 years, and we’re passionate about continuing the tradition. We’re full of ideas about how to continue developing the Grünegg for our guests, and in harmony with nature. We’re personally interested in our guests’ wellbeing. That means doing everything possible to create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere within a natural setting. The Grünegghof is very special, as it combines the traditional and the modern but has an eye on the future.
